Fereshteh Rahmanzadeh and her father, Ali Rahmanzadeh, were shot dead in Saqqez, Kurdistan Province, after her former husband opened fire as police officers accompanied them to enforce a court order granting her property following their divorce.
The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that the attack took place on 12 July, when Rahmanzadeh and her father, accompanied by several police officers, travelled to a garden property on the old Saqqez–Marivan road to recover property awarded to her by the court.
During the enforcement of the order, her former husband, Salah Farajpour, opened fire on Rahmanzadeh and her father, killing them both.
The suspected motive was Farajpour’s opposition to the enforcement of the court ruling.
Following the couple’s divorce, the Saqqez court had awarded Rahmanzadeh full entitlement to her mehrieh (the financial entitlement agreed in the marriage contract), custody of the couple’s two children, and a share of their jointly owned property.
