Kajal Mobaraki and her husband, Jamal Ahmadzadeh, two Kurdish researchers at Orumiyeh University of Medical Sciences, remain detained in Orumiyeh Central Prison more than six weeks after their arrest by security forces.
The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that security forces arrested Mobaraki, from Dehgolan, Kurdistan Province, and Ahmadzadeh, from Mahabad, West Azerbaijan Province, in their vehicle in Orumiyeh in late June.
The forces did not present a warrant and transferred the couple to a security detention facility in the city.
They were interrogated there for several weeks while being denied access to a lawyer and family visits, before being transferred to Orumiyeh Central Prison.
The charges brought against the two citizens remain unknown.
