Milad Tabad, a 28-year-old kolbar from Marivan, Kurdistan Province, has died from injuries sustained when Iranian border guards shot him in the head around a year ago.
A source in Marivan told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN): “On 25 August 2025, border guards opened fire on the kolbar in the Tateh border highlands of Hawraman [in Sarvabad County, Kurdistan Province] while he was not carrying any goods, wounding him in the head.”
According to the source, he was initially taken to Bou Ali Hospital in Marivan before being transferred to medical facilities in Sanandaj due to the severity of his injuries.
Tabad spent several months in intensive care, but after his condition improved to some extent, his family were forced to take him home because of the high cost of keeping him in hospital.
He remained in poor physical condition over the following year and was recently readmitted to medical facilities in Sanandaj after his condition deteriorated. He died from his injuries on 18 August.
Tabad was a father of one from the village of Geleyeh in Marivan County.
