Latifeh Mohammadzadeh, a 49-year-old woman from Saqqez, Kurdistan Province, has been stabbed to death by her former husband, Omid Feyzi.
The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that Feyzi attacked Mohammadzadeh on 20 August while she was returning to Saqqez from the village of Yurqol, where she had travelled while working as a taxi driver.
According to one of her relatives, several bones in her body and her jaw were also broken during the attack, and her body was abandoned beside the road.
Mohammadzadeh had separated from Feyzi the previous year, but he had repeatedly threatened to kill her.
She had filed a complaint over his threats and violence, and a court had sentenced him to imprisonment and a fine a few days before the killing.
Feyzi reportedly fled after the killing and has not yet been arrested.
Mohammadzadeh had custody of her 16-year-old son and supported them by working as a taxi driver and farm labourer. Born on 23 August 1976, she was killed a few days before her 50th birthday.
