Security forces have arrested Kurdish citizen Mansour Karbalaei in Miandoab, West Azerbaijan Province, and transferred him to Bukan Prison to serve a sentence of 10 years and one day.
The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that security forces arrested Karbalaei on 25 August and took him to the Enforcement of Sentences Office of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Miandoab.
He was subsequently transferred to Bukan Prison to serve his sentence.
Karbalaei, a 30-year-old citizen from the village of Sarchenar in Miandoab, was previously arrested by Ministry of Intelligence forces on 30 June 2022 and taken to the agency’s detention facility in Orumiyeh, West Azerbaijan Province.
He was provisionally released on bail several weeks later.
In November 2025, Branch One of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Mahabad, presided over by Judge Ahad Siyami, tried Karbalaei alongside six other Kurdish citizens and sentenced him to 10 years and one day in prison on the charge of “insurrection prior to obtaining weapons”.
In the same case, Kavis Abdollahzadeh Aghdam was sentenced to death in absentia for “armed insurrection through taking up arms against the state”. He had left Iran following his provisional release.
The five other defendants – Hemen Mam-Ghaderi, Yousef Mam-Ghaderi, Salar Bayazidi-Azar, Hassan Mamil-Azar and Salar Seyyed-Rahimi – were each sentenced to 10 years and one day in prison on charges of “insurrection prior to obtaining weapons”.
