Days after the arrest of Khabat Shakiba, a labour activist from Sanandaj, Iran’s northwestern Kurdistan province, there is still no information on his fate.
Security forces arrested the labour activist on 27 January when he was attending the burial ceremony of one of his relatives in Behesht Mohammadi cemetery in Sanandaj.
They then took him to an undisclosed location.
Also, in November 2018, Branch 103 of the Sanandaj Criminal Court had sentenced Shakiba to three months in prison or a fine of 1.5 million Iranian Tomans for “illegal gathering and participation in the Nowruz [aka Newroz in Kurdish] ceremony”.
