Iranian security forces detained Kurdish journalist and cultural activist Siamand Mohtadi in Bukan, West Azerbaijan province, on 11 February.

Security forces raided Mohtadi’s family home in Bukan and took him to an undisclosed location after arresting him, Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned.

Security agents confiscated the journalist’s laptop, cell phone and a number of other personal belongings, but did not allow him to take his medication with him.

Mohtadi has undergone head surgery twice a while ago and is under the supervision of a specialist doctor. His lack of access to medicines and medical care has raised concerns about his health.

Mohtadi has worked with various publications and media outlets, including Bukan, Kurdistan Nwe, and Khak TV, based in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
