Iranian security forces arrested Abdollah Ahmadpour, the brother of Kamal Ahmadpour, a victim of the Woman, Life, Freedom movement, at his workplace in Mahabad, West Azerbaijan province, on 18 June and transferred him to an undisclosed location.

According to reports, the civilian was arrested in front of his shop without a warrant.

His brother Kamal Ahmadpour was shot dead by security forces on 18 November 2022, during the anti-government protests in Mahabad.

In recent weeks, security forces have stepped up pressure on and arrests of family members of protest victims in Kurdistan.

Earlier, on 10 June, security forces detained a group of family members of victims of recent anti-government protests near Bukan, West Azerbaijan province.

The families had travelled from the cities of Dehgolan, Sanandaj and Divandareh in Kurdistan province to Saqqez, Kurdistan province, and Bukan, West Azerbaijan province, to visit the graves of protesters killed during the protests.

Some of the detainees, including several children, were released after a few hours. At least six were released on bail after being held for several days.
