Iran executed today Hassan Teyran, a prisoner charged with “premeditated murder”, at Orumiyeh Central Prison, in West Azerbaijan province.
On 14 February, the prisoner was transferred to solitary confinement along with another death row prisoner, Afshin Amin-Khani.
Amin-Khani’s execution was halted after the consent of the victim’s family was obtained.
Teyran, 43, and Amin-Khani, 30, were arrested in 2020 and 2021, respectively, on charges of “premeditated murder”.
The two civilians were sentenced to death under the Islamic law of qisas or retribution-in-kind, which grants the right to retaliate to the victim’s family.
