Aras Ghorbanipour, a journalist from Saqqez, has been sentenced to a fine of 20 million Rials by the Criminal Court 2 (Branch 102) of Saqqez on charges of “Publishing Lies in Cyberspace”.
The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has been informed that a former member of the Saqqez Council called Alireza Ismaili has filed a complaint against Aras Ghorbanipour for publishing an article in a Telegram channel called Awat regarding the receipt of two plots of land illegally.
Following the complaint of this former member of the City Council, a case categorised as Publishing Lies in Cyberspace was filed against this journalist at the Criminal Court 2 (Branch 102) of Saqez and his hearing was held on June 12, 2018.
The journalist received the written judgement in October that he was sentenced to a fine of 20 million rials by the court.
It is noteworthy that, in addition to working with Rojan Weekly, Aras Ghorbanipour is also director of the Awat Saqez Telegraph Channel. This channel, known as the “Bomb News”, covers the news of Saqez.
