Kurdistan Human Rights Network(KHRN): A young Kurdish singer ‘Peyman Mirzazadeh‘, who was sentenced to six months of imprisonment last year on charges of propaganda against the state due to singing Kurdish revolutionary songs, was arrested by security forces in Orumiyeh once again over the past few days.
A source close to the family of this singer confirmed the news of this arrest and told Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) that “On Thursday, February 20, the security forces arrested Mirzazadeh on the accusation of singing Kurdish revolutionary songs, and transferred to ministry of Intelligence Detention Centre in Orumiyeh. He was transferred to the Orumiyeh Central Prison on Monday afternoon after the interrogations were completed. “
According to the source, Mirzazadeh was also arrested last December by Security forces in Gangchin village at Orumiyeh and sentenced to six months of imprisonment by the Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh on charges of propaganda against the state due to singing Kurdish revolutionary songs. He was released after serving his 6 months sentence from the Orumyieh Central Prison.
“The Orumiyeh intelligence Office considers any singing epic and revolutionary Kurdish songs as propaganda against the state and cooperation with the Kurdish opposition parties. Therefore, he was re-arrested on this base.” the source added.
Due to the prohibition on the singing epic and revolutionary Kurdish songs, several Kurdish singers and artists are arrested and prosecuted annually by security forces for propaganda against the state.
