A group of kolbars in the border area of Kileh in Baneh, Kurdistan province, were shot at close range by Iranian border guards without prior warning on 8 August, as a result of which a kolbar named Keyvan Alipour was injured.

The 38-year-old kolbar, whose condition was reported to be critical, was taken to Salahuddin Ayoubi Hospital in Baneh for treatment.

Last week, during a visit to Baneh border posts, the commander of border forces Ahmad Ali Godarzi said: “Baneh borders from Haftash to Barvishkani will be closed in the next two months and we have ordered that no one should cross the border without permission of the border guards. If anyone violates the law, they will be treated harshly.”

Following Godarzi’s orders, daily targeting of kolbars by border guards increased in Baneh border areas.

On 7 August, border forces killed a 29-year-old kolbar identified as Hazhar Faraji in the border area of Sard Ab in Baneh after opening fire on a group of kolbars.
