The Branch One of the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Varamin, Tehran province, in northern Iran, has sentenced Kurdish artist Khabat Fadaei to a total of six years in prison.
The court charged Fadaei with “propaganda against the state” and “membership in a group and society with the aim of disrupting the security of the country”.
If the sentence is upheld at the appeal stage, five years of the sentence will be applicable according to the Law on Consolidation of Sentences.
The sentence was communicated to the artist on 19 February.
Fadaei, who comes from Sanandaj, Kurdistan province, was arrested by security forces in Tehran on 26 September 2022 and transferred to a security detention centre in Evin Prison.
Later, he was released on bail on 14 November 2022.
