Branch One of the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Saqqez, Kurdistan province, recently sentenced civil rights activist Ayoub Javanpour to a total of 15 years in prison.
He was sentenced as follows: 10 years in jail on charges of “leading a group of more than two people inside the country with the aim of disturbing national security”, two years for “insulting the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran”, two years in prison for “insulting the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran” and one year in jail on charges of “propaganda against the state”.
Under the Islamic Penal Code, 10 years of the sentence is enforceable.
Javanpour, from Saqqez, was arrested by security forces on 10 June.
The activist was reportedly arrested without a court order and subjected to violence during his detention.
He was subsequently transferred to the Ministry of Intelligence detention centre in Sanandaj, Kurdistan province, and later to Saqqez prison.
