After spending 10 days in solitary confinement at the Ministry of Intelligence detention centre, Ali Mohammadi has been transferred back to Ward 12 of Orumiyeh central prison.
According to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network, on Sunday, August 20, Ali Mohammadi Moghaddam was transferred back to Ward 12 of Orumiyeh Central Prison after spending 10 days in solitary confinement. On August 10, he had been referred to the prison health clinic after being beaten by a number of agents and prisoners due to an argument with the authorities before being transferred to solitary confinement.
“The prisoner went on hunger strike during the first two days of being detained in solitary confinement, and his health condition is critical now due to suffering from schizophrenia”, a well-informed source told the KHRN.
Ali Mohammadi Moghaddam, a Kurdish citizen of Kermanshah and resident of Tehran, holds a master’s degree in political science and he was employed by the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He was arrested by the Intelligence Ministry agents in his house in 2007 and
then transferred to the solitary confinement at the Tehran Intelligence Detention Centre for interrogations before being transferred to Evin Prison 15 months later.
After nearly two years of waiting, his trial was held at Branch 2 of Tehran’s Military Court in early 2010. Despite the defence statements made by this political prison, he was sentenced to death on charges of Moharebeh (waging war against God) only on the basis of charges brought forward by the intelligence ministry. Moreover, the appeal of this Kurdish prisoner was refused and the verdict was approved by the Supreme Court.
In 2010, the Commission on Amnesty and Pardons agreed to his amnesty and sentenced him to 18 years of imprisonment and exile to Orumiyeh Prison.
The detainee faces severe mental illness due to his 15-month stays in solitary confinement cells and the Forensic Medicine Organisation has even confirmed his inability to withstand a prison sentence. He was transferred from Evin Prison to the Central Prison of Orumiyeh in late 2010 and has been on hunger strike for several times for not paying attention to his medical treatment.
