Prisoner Mikaeil Moeini who had gone on hunger strike in Bukan Prison on 16 May in protest against the increase in the amount of bail for his temporary release, continues his strike.
Separately, another prisoner named Azad Saeidi has been on a hunger strike since Wednesday, 2 June, protesting against the suspension of his temporary leave.
Moeini has suffered a severe drop in blood pressure and physical weakness on the 18th day of his hunger strike, and yesterday, after being transferred to the infirmary of the prison, he has refused injection of serum and has been returned to the ward, sources told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).
Moeini, who comes from Bukan, was granted temporary leave last year on a bail of 150 million Iranian Tomans – nearly 6,000 USD. However, a few months ago, with the order of the public prosecutor of Bukan, this amount was increased to 300 million Toman. He was also moved from an open prison to a closed prison.
The prisoner had been sentenced to five years in prison for drug offenses and has been serving his sentence in Bukan Prison for 28 months.
He had previously gone on a hunger strike for eight days in April this year, ending his strike with the favourable promise of prison officials.
Meanwhile, prisoner Azad Saeidi’s temporary leave has been suspended by the order of the public prosecutor of Bukan, despite having been sent on leave 14 times before. He went on a hunger strike two days ago to protest against this decision.
The prisoner was arrested about seven years ago on drug charges and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
