Iran has released on bail Kurdish activists Khabat Mafakheri and Salah Osmani today, 23 August.
Security forces arrested Mafakheri on 10 August and Osmani on 18 August.
Reportedly, the activists have been charged with “acting against national security” through “collaborating with Kurdish opposition parties”.
The Ministry of Intelligence detained the environmental activist Khabat Mafakheri for several days in a detention centre in Sanandaj. He was later transferred to Sanandaj Central Prison.
On 27 August 2020, the intelligence ministry had arrested the environmental activist in Sanandaj and had taken him to its detention centre in the city.
In June, Branch 1 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj had sentenced Mafakheri to four years suspended prison sentence on charges of “acting against national security” through “membership in the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK)”.
Separately, security forces arrested Salah Osmani, a former political prisoner, in Piranshahr in West Azerbaijan province.
He was then transferred to Naqadeh Central Prison after two days of interrogation in a detention centre in Piranshahr.
In 2008, security forces had arrested him on charges of “collaborating with a Kurdish party”. He was released after serving about four years in Orumiyeh and Yazd.
