Prisoner Saeid Saeidifar ended his life by taking pills on 20 February, following continued threats from the Orumiyeh Central Prison chief inspector to transfer him to solitary confinement, Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned.
Saeidifar’s lifeless body was found in his bed by his cellmates in dormitory 5 of the prison.
On 19 February, Hajebi, the head of the Inspection Office of Orumiyeh Central Prison, along with prison guards, raided dormitory 5 and destroyed prisoners’ belongings under the pretext of inspection.
Saeidifar protested against the situation and told Hajebi that he would commit suicide if the pressures continued, KHRN learned.
The 35-year-old prisoner comes from Orumiyeh and had been in prison for about 11 years over drug-related charges.
