Judicial proceedings for several political detainees in Iran have stalled under the ongoing wartime conditions, a source familiar with the matter told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN)

One of these detainees, Salar Khalifehzadeh, a Kurdish political activist arrested in October 2025 on charges of “membership in opposition groups” and “propaganda against the state,” has remained in pre-trial detention due to disruptions in the judicial system caused by the current conflict, the source said.

Khalifehzadeh was recently transferred from Mahabad Prison to Miandoab Prison following inmate protests at the Mahabad Prison and a subsequent crackdown by special forces there. His pre-trial detention had been extended monthly, the source added.

His case was initially handled by Branch One of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Mahabad, presided over by Judge Siamy.

At Miandoab, Khalifehzadeh is held alongside dozens of other detainees in what the source described as difficult conditions. Inmates report being denied family visits.

Agents of Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence arrested Khalifehzadeh on October 29 2025, without an arrest warrant. He was first held in a detention facility in Orumiyeh for 17 days of interrogation with no access to a lawyer or family contact. He was then transferred back to Mahabad Prison and later to Miandoab Prison.
