Arrest

Afshin Saedi, a Kurdish civilian from Bukan, West Azerbaijan Province, was violently arrested by the Ministry of Intelligence forces in the city on 24 December 2024, and was released several weeks later on bail, pending further proceedings.

He was denied family visits and access to legal representation during his detention.

Judicial Process

Branch 101 of the Second Criminal Court in Bukan sentenced him to three months in prison on charges of “propaganda against the state”.

Current Status

Saedi was sent to Bukan Prison to serve his sentence on 31 May 2025.

Notes:

1. Article 500 of the Islamic Penal Code: “Anyone who engages in propaganda activities against the Islamic Republic of Iran or in favour of groups and organisations opposing the state, in any manner, shall be sentenced to imprisonment for a period of three months to one year.”
