Arrest

Awat Rostami, a Kurdish citizen from Mahabad, West Azerbaijan Province, was arrested on 6 March 2026 after security forces raided his family home in Mahabad.

Following his arrest, he was transferred to the Ministry of Intelligence detention facility in Orumiyeh, West Azerbaijan Province.

Defendant’s Rights

He was arrested without a warrant and was denied access to legal representation and family visits during his detention.

Current Status

Rostami was temporarily released from Mahabad Prison on 11 June 2026 on bail of 100 billion rials.
