Benyamin Rahimpour was previously arrested by security forces along with his brother Taregh Rahimpour on 3 May 2020, and released a few weeks later on bail of three billion rials (nearly 4,000 USD).

Later, Branch One of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj, presided over by Judge Saeidi, sentenced him to six months in prison and an 18-month suspended imprisonment on charges of “acting against national security” through alleged links to a Kurdish opposition group.

Rahimpour was imprisoned in February 2023 to serve his sentence.

Arrest

Rahimpour, a former political prisoner, was arrested during a raid by the Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on his shop in Sanandaj, on 21 January 2025.

During the operation, the agents confiscated the shop’s security cameras and later raided his family home, creating a climate of fear by brandishing firearms.

They also confiscated some of Rahimpour’s personal belongings during the raid.

Defendant’s Rights

He was arrested without a warrant and has since been denied family visits and access to legal representation.

Despite his family’s repeated attempts to obtain information about his fate, security and judicial authorities have refused to provide any clarification regarding his situation.

Current Status

Rahimpour is being held in the Shahramfar detention facility of the IRGC’s Intelligence Organisation in Sanandaj.
