Ghader Kharamanfar, a former political prisoner from Mahabad, West Azerbaijan Province, has been repeatedly summoned and arrested by the Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Ministry of Intelligence in Mahabad in recent years.

One of his children, Aram Kharamanfar, was also expelled from Maragheh University a few years ago as part of the continuing pressure on the family.

Arrest

Kharamanfar was arrested by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence at his home on 15 December 2024.

Defendant’s Rights

He was arrested without a warrant and has since been denied family visits and access to legal representation.

Despite his family’s repeated attempts to obtain information about his fate, security and judicial authorities have refused to provide any clarification regarding his situation.

Current Status

Kharamanfar was transferred from from the Ministry of Intelligence detention centre in Orumiyeh, West Azerbaijan Province, to Mahabad Prison on 13 February 2025.

Additional Information

On 4 February 2025, Hajar Amiya, Kharamanfar’s wife, was summoned by telephone to the Ministry of Intelligence’s office in Mahabad, where she was interrogated and threatened for several hours.
