Arrest
Hawre Ghoveh, a Kurdish civilian from Mahabad, West Azerbaijan Province, was arrested on 28 October 2024 on the Mahabad-Piranshahr road while travelling in a Pride passenger car.
He was detained along with another civilian, Abdollah Houshmand, by the Ministry of Intelligence and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces from the Hamzeh Seyyed al-Shohada base.
On 30 October 2024, Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB reported that an armed member of a Kurdish opposition group had been killed and two others arrested during a “complex intelligence operation” backed by the Hamzeh Seyyed al-Shohada base.
Defendant’s Rights
He was arrested without a warrant and has since been denied family visits and access to legal representation.
Current Status
Ghoveh was transferred from the Ministry of Intelligence detention centre in Orumiyeh, West Azerbaijan Province, to Mahabad Prison in early January 2025.
