Arrest

Heresh Sharifian, a 17-year-old Kurdish child from the village of Palangan in Kamyaran, Kurdistan Province, was arrested on 6 June 2026 after presenting himself at the Ministry of Intelligence office in Kamyaran.

Earlier the same day, security forces had raided his family home in Palangan and broken down the entrance door in an attempt to arrest him, but he was not at home.

Following the raid, the forces told his family to have him report to the Ministry of Intelligence office as soon as possible.

Defendant’s Rights

He was arrested without a warrant and has since been denied access to legal representation and family visits.

Despite several days passing since his arrest, his family remains unaware of his place of detention and condition.

Security and judicial authorities have refused to provide any explanation about his situation despite repeated enquiries by his family.

His continued detention while under the age of 18, without contact with his family or access to a lawyer, has raised concerns about respect for children’s rights and legal safeguards for minors.

Current Status

Sharifian is being held at the Juvenile Detention Centre of Sanandaj, Kurdistan Province.
