Arrest
Mahmoud Naderi, a Kurdish civilian from the village of Dadaneh Kamangar in Sanandaj, Kurdistan Province, was arrested on 4 March 2025 after being summoned by the intelligence unit of the district’s law enforcement command.
His summons and subsequent arrest were reportedly due to his wearing of a khaki Kurdish outfit and a jamaneh (a traditional Kurdish shoulder cloth often worn as part of Kurdish clothing), which were worn by several participants in his child’s wedding ceremony.
After two weeks, he was provisionally released on bail, but on 22 March, he was arrested after being summoned by telephone to the office of the Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Sanandaj.
Defendant’s Rights
He was arrested without a warrant and was denied family visits and access to legal representation during his detention.
Current Status
After initial interrogation, Naderi was transferred to from the Shahramfar detention facility of the IRGC’s Intelligence Organisation to Sanandaj Prison and released on bail on 5 April 2025.
