Malak Faraj-Beygi, a civil rights activist from Bukan, West Azerbaijan Province, was previously involved in environmental groups including “Welat” and “Jingeparezani Bukan”, as well as Bukan’s literary association.

Arrest

Faraj-Beygi was arrested on 1 July 2025 during a raid on her family home by around 20 Ministry of Intelligence agents.

The agents also damaged doors and windows during the raid.

Defendant’s Rights

She was arrested without a warrant and was denied family visits and access to legal representation during her detention.

Current Status

After her arrest, Faraj-Beygi was taken to the Ministry of Intelligence detention centre in Orumiyeh, West Azerbaijan Province, for interrogation and then transferred to the women’s section of Orumiyeh Central Prison.

She was released on bail after spending 21 days in custody.
