Maryam Davoudian, a 58-year-old Kurdish woman from Bukan, West Azerbaijan Province, suffers from diabetes, minor thalassaemia and rheumatoid arthritis. She has also previously lost the sight in one eye following a retinal stroke and requires continuous access to prescribed medication.

Arrest

Davoudian was arrested on 20 April 2026 after being summoned by telephone to the Ministry of Intelligence office in Bukan and presenting herself there.

After several hours of interrogation, she was transferred to the quarantine section of the women’s ward at Orumiyeh Central Prison on a 10-day temporary detention order.

Defendant’s Rights

Since her arrest, Davoudian has been denied family visits and access to legal representation.

Her family managed to hand over some of her medication to prison guards, but it remains unknown whether she received it.

Despite her family’s repeated attempts to obtain information about her fate, security and judicial authorities have refused to provide any clarification regarding her situation.

Current Status

Davoudian is being held in the quarantine section of the women’s ward at Orumiyeh Central Prison.
