Arrest
Milad Rendani, a photographer from Saqqez, Kurdistan Province, was arrested at his workplace during a raid by Ministry of Intelligence forces in the city on 23 January 2025.
His arrest was reportedly linked to strikes and protests in response to the death sentences handed down to Kurdish political prisoners Pakhshan Azizi and Verisheh (Wirishe) Moradi.
Defendant’s Rights
He was arrested without a warrant and was denied family visits and access to legal representation during his detention.
Despite his family’s repeated attempts to obtain information about his fate, security and judicial authorities have refused to provide any clarification regarding his situation.
Current Status
After several weeks in detention, Rendani was transferred from the Ministry of Intelligence detention centre in Sanandaj to Saqqez Prison, and released on bail of six billion rials (nearly 6,500 USD) on 25 February 2025.
