Arrest
Nariman Rendani, a Kurdish civil rights activist from Saqqez, Kurdistan Province, was arrested by Ministry of Intelligence forces in the city on 22 January 2025.
His arrest was reportedly linked to strikes and protests in response to the death sentences handed down to Kurdish political prisoners Pakhshan Azizi and Verisheh (Wirishe) Moradi.
After spending several weeks in the Ministry of Intelligence’s detention centre in Sanandaj, Kurdistan Province, he was transferred to Saqqez Prison and provisionally released on bail of six billion rials (nearly 7,500 USD) on 25 February 2025.
On 9 April 2025, Rendani was arrested again by security forces at his workplace.
Defendant’s Rights
He was arrested without a warrant and was denied family visits and access to legal representation during his detention.
Current Status
Rendani was provisionally released on bail from Saqqez Prison on 11 May.
