Arrest

Nasser Ahmadzadeh, a Kurdish civilian from Mahabad, West Azerbaijan Province, was arrested by Ministry of Intelligence agents in the city on 26 January 2025.

His arrest was reportedly linked to strikes and protests in response to the death sentences handed down to Kurdish political prisoners Pakhshan Azizi and Verisheh (Wirishe) Moradi.

Defendant’s Rights

He was arrested without a warrant and was denied family visits and access to legal representation during his detention.

Current Status

After one day in detention, Ahmadzadeh was transferred from the the Ministry of Intelligence detention centre in Mahabad to the city prison, and released on bail on 2 March 2025.
