Arrest

Omid Faraji, a Kurdish civilian from the village of Ney in Marivan, Kurdistan Province, was arrested by Ministry of Intelligence agents in the city on 18 August 2024.

After several weeks of interrogation at a security detention facility, he was transferred to Marivan Prison and was provisionally released on 29 September 2024 on bail of 13 billion rials (nearly 16,000 USD).

During his detention, he was denied the right to family visits and access to legal representation.

Judicial Process

In two separate cases, the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Marivan sentenced him to a total of five years in prison on political charges. This sentence was later reduced to four years following the application of mitigating circumstances.

Current Status

Faraji was sent to Marivan Prison in April 2025 to serve his sentence after being summoned by the Enforcement of Judgements Office of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in the city.
