Arrest

Saeid Safaei, a Kurdish tradesman from Bukan, West Azerbaijan Province, was arrested on mid-June 2025 in the Mirawa neighbourhood of Bukan, several days after the start of the 12-day war.

While he was driving his car, security forces pursued him, opened fire, and arrested him after his vehicle came to a stop.

More than a year after his arrest, and despite reports that he may have been wounded at the time of arrest, security agencies and judicial authorities in Bukan have provided no information to his family about his condition or place of detention.

Defendant’s Rights

Safaei was arrested without a warrant, and since his arrest, his fate and whereabouts have been concealed from his family and the public for a prolonged period, amounting to enforced disappearance.

During this period, he has been denied access to legal representation, family contact and family visits.

Despite repeated efforts by his family to obtain information about his condition and place of detention, security and judicial authorities have refused to provide any explanation or accept responsibility for his situation.

Current Status

Safaei was transferred to an undisclosed location after his arrest.
