Arrest
Sirvan Parvizi, a Kurdish blogger and satirist from Ilam, Ilam Province, was arrested on 5 January by the Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) at his family home in Ilam over his management of a public Instagram account where he created and shared satirical videos addressing the country’s political, social, and economic conditions.
After his arrest, Parvizi was taken to the detention facility of the IRGC’s Intelligence Organisation and transferred to Ilam Central Prison a day later.
Defendant’s Rights
He was arrested without a warrant and was denied family visits and access to legal representation during his detention.
Current Status
Parvizi was released on bail on 7 January 2025.
Additional Information
As part of the judicial action, Parvizi’s Instagram account was seized on 7 January, and a notice was posted on the page stating: “By order of the honourable judicial authorities, this online address has been seized for publishing criminal content. Those involved in the offences mentioned in the case are under judicial prosecution.”
