Yousef Amini is a retired Kurdish teacher from Bukan, West Azerbaijan Province.

He had previously been summoned and detained along with several other citizens following a wedding celebration in Bukan, where many guests wore khaki-coloured Kurdish clothing.

The use of this type of Kurdish clothing, due to its similarity to the uniforms of peshmerga forces of Kurdish opposition parties, was cited as one of the reasons for the security agencies’ actions against participants in the ceremony.

Arrest

Amini was arrested on 13 June 2026 after Ministry of Intelligence forces raided his family home in Bukan.

Defendant’s Rights

He was arrested without a warrant and has since been denied access to legal representation and family visits.

Despite repeated enquiries by his family to obtain information about his fate, security and judicial authorities have refused to provide any explanation regarding his situation.

Current Status

Amini is being held at the Ministry of Intelligence detention facility in Orumiyeh, West Azerbaijan Province.
