A Turkish civilian from Salmas named Reza Abbasi has been sent to Orumiyeh Central Prison in the past days to serve 14 months in prison, sources told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

Abbasi was arrested by the security forces in Salmas, West Azerbaijan province, in August 2020. After being held for a month in the detention centre of the Ministry of Intelligence and Orumiyeh Central Prison, he was released on a bail of 500 million Iranian Tomans – nearly 20,000 USD.

In the past winter, Branch 2 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh sentenced the Turkish civilian to a total of three years in prison on charges of “propaganda against the state” and “insulting the [supreme] leader of the Islamic Republic [of Iran]”.

The sentence was then commuted to 14 months imprisonment in early 2021 by Branch 13 of the Court of Appeals of Orumiyeh.
