Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and the Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have prohibited the continuation of the memorial service held for the senior member of the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK) Yousef Rabbani (also known as Rezan Javid).

Security agencies have reportedly summoned Rabbani’s mother, Fatemeh Sohrabi, and his brothers and interrogated them for several hours.

As part of the prohibition, the security agencies have forced the family to temporarily leave their home since 15 August.

Security interrogators have also pressured and threatened Rabbani’s mother and brothers to participate in a television interview and attribute the responsibility of killing their child to PJAK.

A source speaking to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN), said despite the pressures and threats, Rabbani’s family refused to be interviewed.

The source added: “In the past few days, the offices of the intelligence ministry and the Intelligence Organisation of the IRGC in Mahabad summoned and questioned several civilians from Mahabad under the pretext that they attended Yousef Rabbani’s memorial service.”

Yousef Rabbani, whose organisational code name was Rezan Javid, came from Mahabad, West Azerbaijan province. He was the former co-chair of the Democratic and Free Society of Eastern Kurdistan (Kodar) and a member of the executive committee of the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK).

Rabbani lost his life during a joint operation by Iranian and Turkish intelligence agencies in the city of Qamishlo in Syrian Kurdistan (also known as Rojava), in northeast Syria. He was targeted by the drones of the Turkish army.
