Kurdish political prisoner Aynaz Zare was released from Orumiyeh Central Prison after spending 15 months in prison.

On November 16, she was sentenced to five years in prison by the Branch 1 of the Orumiyeh Criminal Court for Children and Adolescents on charges of “acting against national security” through membership in the Kurdistan Freedom Party (Pak). However, the  Orumiyeh Court of Appeals reduced this sentence to one year in prison, a reliable source told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

Aynaz Zare was under 18 years old at the time of her arrest and she has been deprived of the right to a lawyer during this time.

Aynaz Zare and her mother, Shahnaz Sadeghifar, returned to Iran in October of last year after several years of membership in the Kurdistan Freedom Party (Pak) upon receiving an “immunity letter” from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The trial of Shahnaz Sadeghi was held on July 21 at the Branch 2 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh, headed by Judge Ali Sheikhlou. She was charged with “acting against national security” through membership in the Kurdistan Freedom Party and sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Zare has reportedly committed suicide by cutting her vein after the announcement of her mother’s sentence at the women’s ward of the prison but she was saved by the other prisoners.
