The intelligence service of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Orumiyeh and Salmas, the northwestern province of West Azerbaijan, have in the past months summoned the families of Kurdish political activists living in Europe and warned them about their children’s political activities.

Interrogators of the military-security organisation have threatened to detain and prosecute the families of the political activists.

Reportedly, the Intelligence Organisation of the IRGC in Salmas summoned Mahkoum Esmaeili Sheidan, a civilian from the village of Derik in Salmas, in the past few days, in the scope of these pressures.

The civilian was interrogated regarding his son Omran Esmaeili Sheidan’s participation in the protests carried out in front of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic in Brussels.

One of the interrogators, identified as Mohammadi, disrespected and beat the middle-aged civilian during interrogation, threatening to detain him and file a case against him if his son continued his activities in Europe.
