Protesters and local shops and businesses in Iranian Kurdistan held demonstrations and went on strikes yesterday on the 40th day of the murder of a Kurdish woman named Jina Mahsa Amini by government forces.

Many local businesses and shops in Mahabad, Sardasht, Piranshahr, Bukan, Divandarreh, Saqqez, Marivan, Dehgolan, Kamyaran and Javanrud went on widespread strikes and closed their businesses.

Also, despite the strict security atmosphere and the government’s efforts, tens of thousands of people attended the commemoration ceremony held at the Aychi Cemetery in Saqqez, where Amini’s body is buried.

The anti-riot forces and the paramilitary Basij forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), who had not succeeded in blocking the routes to the cemetery due to the large presence of people, shot people at the entrance of Saqqez upon their return and near the Iranian army’s organisational buildings.

The received reports indicate that dozens of people were injured as a result of the shootings by the military security forces in Saqqez.

In the evening, simultaneously with the widespread strikes, people started street protests in Orumiyeh, Bukan, Mahabad, Saqqez, Sanandaj, Marivan, Kamyaran, Qasr-e Shirin, Kermanshah and Ilam.

Armed government forces killed at least three Kurdish civilians named Esmaeil Mowloudi, 35; Afshin Asham, 28; and Mohammad Shariati in Mahabad, Qasr-e Shirin and Sanandaj.

Dozens of other civilians have also been injured in these cities as a result of anti-riot and Basij forces shooting at protesters with shotguns and firearms.

Since the beginning of the nationwide uprising of the people of Iran after the murder of Jina Mahsa Amini by the government, the military-security forces have killed at least 40 Kurdish civilians, including five children, as a result of shooting or torture in Orumiyeh, Oshnavieh, Piranshahr, Divandarreh, Saqqez, Sanandaj, Marivan, Kermanshah, Eslamabad-e Gharb, Ilam, Bukan, Qasr-e Shirin, Mahabad, Qazvin, Varamin and Karaj.
