Iranian anti-riot forces and the paramilitary Basij forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) killed at least three protesters today in Mahabad, West Azerbaijan province.

Today, widespread public protests were held in Mahabad after a large number of people attended the burial ceremony of Esmaeil Mowloudi, 35, a civilian who was killed last night by military-security forces during protests in the city.

The anti-riot and IRGC forces opened fire on the protesters during today’s protests, which were attended by thousands of people in most areas of the city, especially in front of the governmental buildings.

As a result of the shootings, three Kurdish civilians named Kobra Sheikheh, 52, Zaniar Aboubakr and Shaho Khezri were killed.

Sources of the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) in the city reported that there were internet disruptions and the protests continued despite tight security measures taken in the city.
