Sohrab Rahmati, a Kurdish lawyer and member of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region Bar Association, was severely injured in an assassination attempt in Erbil, Kurdistan Region of Iraq, on the evening of 16 November, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned.

Rahmati, from Bukan in West Azerbaijan Province, has represented cases involving the assassination of Kurdish political figures in the Kurdistan Region and has been frequently threatened by Islamic Republic of Iran’s security services in recent years.

The incident took place outside his home in Hana City, Erbil, where assailants wielding a silenced firearm injured Rahmati.

The targeted lawyer has since been taken to a medical facility in Erbil for treatment.

This assassination attempt follows a series of targeted attacks on members of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) in the Kurdistan Region.

Since March, three PDKI members, Siamand Shaboyi, Adel Mohajer, and Loghman Aji, have been assassinated by the agents of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
