Kolbar Zanyar Sayahi was injured by shotgun fire from Iranian border guards while in custody at the Hangeh-ye Zhal border base in Baneh, Kurdistan Province, on 6 March.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that Mostafa Moradi, an official at the Hangeh-ye Zhal border base, and border guards arrested and beat Sayahi on the evening of 6 March.

Before releasing him, they forced him to strip and shot him with a shotgun from a few metres away.

Sayahi, who suffered dozens of bullet wounds, was taken to a hospital in Tabriz for treatment and is in a critical condition.

Data collected by the KHRN reveals a disturbing trend, citing incidents in February 2023 when two kolbars – Seyvan Sahihi and Jafar Faraji – were shot dead by Iranian border guards in the border area of Baneh, Kermanshah Province. Additionally, kolbar Farid Roubina succumbed to harsh weather conditions in the border areas of Marivan, Kurdistan Province.
