Three Sunni Kurdish religious activists have been subjected to enforced disappearance since their arrest by security forces in August 2022, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned.

Brothers Jamshid Ahmadi and Afshin Ahmadi were arrested by security forces in Sanandaj on 18 August 2022, while Shahram Ebadian, their sister’s husband, was also detained by plainclothes officers the following day, 19 August, when he visited Sanandaj Central Prison to seek information about their whereabouts.

Despite more than 19 months since their enforced disappearance, and despite tireless efforts by their families, there has been no information about their detention or fate.

Additionally, the families have been pressured by the security and judicial authorities not to share any information about their situation.

These activists have previously been detained by the Ministry of Intelligence for their religious activities and have endured long periods of detention and imprisonment.

In the most recent incident, Ebadian was arrested in Sanandaj in early 2022 and then transferred to the city’s central prison after two months of interrogation in the Ministry of Intelligence’s detention centre. He was temporarily released on bail after three months of detention.
