Hatam Ortoglu, a 70-year-old Kurdish Prisoner, citizen of Turkey who had been on hunger strike since November 11, in protest to not being transferred to a prison in Turkey, ended his hunger strike after the authorities promised to pay attention to his request.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has been informed that during a six-day hunger strike, Hatam Ortoglu was transferred to a prison health clinic once due to a critical health condition but he continued his strike despite doctors’ advice to end his strike. It should be mentioned that the prisoner suffers from heart disease.

On Nov 17, 2018, the prisoner detained in Section 3-4 of the narcotics at the Orumiyeh Central Prison, has now ended his hunger strike after several meetings with prison authorities and their promise to allow him complete their remaining detention in Turkey.

Ortoglu was arrested by the Iranian security forces and sentenced to life imprisonment following the confession of several civilians from Orumiyeh regarding the purchase and sale of narcotics. His life imprisonment sentence was later reduced to 24 years of imprisonment.

He has requested to be transferred to one of the prisons in Turkey due to his age and history of heart disease. Last year, he paid 120 million Rials for the cost of the transfer but so far no action has been taken.
