Mohieddin Ebrahimi, a Kurdish political prisoner sentenced to death for the second time.

The verdict was served on him in Orumiyeh Central Prison yesterday. His trial was held four months ago at Branch 2 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh, presided by Judge Ali Sheikhlo.

The ruling was initially issued in August last year when the political prisoner was sentenced to death at the same branch on the charge of ‘taking up arms against the state”. Upon contesting the ruling, the sentence was referred to Branch 19 of the Supreme Court which referred it back to Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court in Orumiyeh for “lack of investigation”.

Ebrahimi is the second Kurdish political prisoner sentenced to death this month. The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) had earlier reported the death sentence for Houshmand Alipour in a separate case on a similar charge of “rebellion” through membership in a Kurdish Opposition Party”.

Mohieddin Ebrahimi, 40 years old and married from Oshnavieh, was wounded and arrested on November 03, 2017, in a village in Oshnavieh by the IRGC. After being detained, he was transferred to the IRGC Intelligence Unit in Orumiyeh and severely tortured.

The political prisoner was hospitalized for two days at a hospital in Orumiyeh but he was transferred to the IRGC detention centre before completing his treatment. After the interrogations ended on December 07, he was transferred to the Orumiyeh Central Prison after which he was hospitalized for six months.

The trial of this political prisoner was held on August 20, 2018 at Branch 2 of the Orumiyeh Revolutionary Court, presided by Judge Sheikhlo without the right to have a lawyer, and the verdict was officially served on him in prison on September 23 on the charge of ‘taking up arms against the state”.

This political was previously arrested by the security forces in 2010 on charges of cooperation with one of the Kurdish parties and was released after 14 months of imprisonment in Orumiyeh Central Prison.

His other brother called Nour Al-Din, who was a Kolbar, was killed by Iranian border forces in the Shaban border region on May 4, 2017.
