Kurdish civilian Golaleh Moradi has gone on a hunger strike in the prison of Orumiyeh, in Iran’s northwestern province of West Azerbaijan, on 14 February.

Moradi, who has been in pre-trial detention for the past ten months, has begun her strike to protest against the uncertainty in her case.

On 14 February, she delivered a letter to prison authorities, announcing her indefinite hunger strike.

For the past ten months, the court refused to hear Moradi’s case, and she remains in pre-trial detention.

The Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) arrested Moradi and two of her sons, Taher Bazazi and Matin Bazazi, in Piranshahr, West Azerbaijan province, on 17 April.

The security forces then took the civilians to the intelligence institution’s detention facility in Orumiyeh.

After their interrogation, the Intelligence Organisation of the IRGC released Moradi’s son.

However, the civilian herself was transferred to Orumiyeh Central Prison after 45 days of temporary detention and has been held in the prison ever since.

Moradi, from Piranshahr, is accused of “collaborating with a Kurdish opposition party”.
