Kurdish woman political prisoner Sakineh Parvaneh attempted to commit suicide after being returned from the detention facility of the Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Mashhad, northeastern Iran, to the city prison on 30 October.
On 23 October, Mashhad prison authorities sent Parvaneh and three other prisoners named Fatehemh Feyz, Monireh Nourikia and Shahla (last name unknown) to the detention centre of the IRGC’s intelligence unit.
Prison authorities have accused the four prisoners of “trying to start a riot in prison”.
Security forces tortured Parvaneh with electric shocks at the detention facility. They threatened to arrest her teenage sister if she did not make a video confession.
The political prisoner was forced to make a forced confession under the pressure and torture of the security interrogators.
On 30 October, she tried to hang herself while in the solitary cell of the prison after she was returned from the detention centre.
Prison guards intervened and took her to the infirmary of the prison.
Several hours later she was returned to the general ward of the prison.
A month earlier, Parvaneh was held in solitary confinement for 17 days.
