Prisoners of conscience transferred to a new high-security ward at Orumiyeh Central Prison, have been isolated in harsh prison conditions over the past year.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that these prisoners have been denied access to medical care for the past two months as the prison authorities have refused to transfer them to hospitals outside the prison.

Hatam Ozdemir, Sardar Ozmesh, Aram Omari, Vafa Hanareh, Anwar Chaleshi, Ashkan Osmannezhad, Dara Rashidi, Taher Hosseinzadeh, Reza Pour-Abdollahi, Mansour Choupani, and Mokhtar Ebrahimi are among the prisoners in need of urgent medical treatment for illnesses including brain tumours, herniated discs, ruptured tendons, and heart and kidney problems.

As the new ward is located in an isolated area outside the main prison building, prisoners are not allowed to go to the prison infirmary, and only the doctor visits the ward several times a month to examine the sick prisoners, KHRN has learned.

The infirmary doctor has not visited the ward to examine prisoners of conscience for the past two months.

There are 45 political prisoners in the high-security ward of Orumiyeh Central Prison.

Several jamming devices are installed in the ward and prisoners are not allowed to move to other wards or to the prison infirmary.

Over the past few months, Jalal Rahimpour, the guard officer of the ward; Azarnia, the security officer of the prison; and Bakshi, the prison director, have repeatedly visited the ward, disrespecting and threatening the prisoners of conscience.
