The explosion of war remnants from the Iran-Iraq war killed a civilian named Reza Aghaei and severely injured his mother, Shakar Ahmadi, in the Geravian village of Gilan-e Gharb, Iran’s western Kermanshah province, today.

The 65-year-old woman’s condition is reported to be critical after being transferred to the hospital.

Reportedly, after finding a mortar shell, Aghaei, 32, tried to modify it and sell it as scrap metal.

According to the statistics collected by the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN), from March 2021 to March 2022, at least nine civilians and two employees of the demining department were killed and 26 people were injured, and in some cases lost their body parts, as a result of the explosion of landmines and war munitions. There were at least six children among the victims.
